Oh right, I'm also playing on West server too. Think that would matter also.

This game is boss.
Something I never thought I'd say about any free MMO. 8D;;

Currently level 19 nearing 20 with a Fiona named Aurii.

I can't wait for Evie though.

Fuckin' Scythes, man.
Even her Staff play looks great.

Really hate Gender locked classes, but.. Eh. At least you can still customize and name your characters.. Rather than something like Diablo where they have a set look.

I signed up for the beta ages ago and didn't get anything >(

My graphics card probably can't handle it anyway.

It runs on a modified Source Engine. If you can run any Valve game, you can run this.

It's Region locked though.

Well, as I said, I'm loving it so far.

It's extremely fast paced and very pick up and play.
I got on one night to do a mission before bed, got in a group for it instantly and was done in less than 12 minutes.

Going through stages is quick and satisfying, despite being repetitive. The grindy parts of it aren't too staggering. Combat is fun. Largely timing based. Gear so far as been pretty neat, but also the biggest grindy part... Though the Marketplace system allows you to make money off gear you've crafted yourself, even after wearing it (not soulbound unless bought off the market).

I suppose I should play an MMO with some people from here one of these days, and this one looks to be in my price range.

So I played some of this earlier today, feels like a game that's very easy to pick up and play. It's also really fun, very solid for a free MMO.

It doesn't seem like it from the website, but that's what I've been told. Mega gave me a key. People here seem to have them in abundance, so I'm sure you can get one.

Matter of fact, lemme sign up and see if it gives me any.

Actually, yeah, it gave me two beta codes for friends. Would you like one? I can send it over Steam.

I'm currently running around as a Lann named Vernon on the East server (). The game is pretty fun. It reminds me of Monster Hunter and is probably the closest we're going to get to Monster Hunter Frontier in the states (Since Capcom doesn't want to bring it over ). That said, I'll probably roll a Fiona later to see how she handles, since the game is already getting pretty repetitive. Hopefully they get the mail system working correctly so the marketplace becomes usable.

Also, I have two keys for this if anybody's interested.

Mail system hasn't caused any problems for me.

Fiona is a lot more tactical than Lann.

I figure I'll like Fiona better than Lann. Dodging is great and everything, but it's not doing a whole lot against the bosses in Hoarfrost that spam their circular AoE melee attacks.

[I digress]
He swings again after it goes around, so even if you dodge the first swing, you get nailed when it comes around again. I can't be sure if the second dodge from the skill even has an invulnerability period. I dunno, maybe they don't intend for us to dodge everything. The hits don't do a lot of damage, but I don't like taking the hits regardless (I guess games have trained me to not like taking damage when I could dodge or block instead). Natually, my damage is crap because I can't stay long enough to do more than 3-4 normal hits unless I want to take damage. I can usually pick up a rock or two and toss them at the boss to stun them so I can use Thousand Needles on them, but there don't seem to be any objects useful for stunning in Hoarfrost. I'd stun him with spears, but I usually carry mining bombs. Maybe I should get a party for the first time ever, but I've grown to dislike playing with randoms.
[/I digress]

About the mailing system: I assume that when you buy an item from the marketplace, it's supposed to show up in your mailbox. The posts on the official forums seem to support that, and people are complaining about not receiving mail, receiving mail with a missing items, having items disappear from mail already in their inbox, and other things.

Partying with randoms in this game has never been that bad for me, surprisingly. Outside of lag and such, but that's manageable. Though there was one time I ended up taking on (and beating) the Gnoll Chieftan by myself. I was proud of that, but disappointed at the same time.
But yeah... That's generally what I don't like about him as much. He takes less thinking, but he's a lot of fun against the trash... Thousand Needles' smash bit can take out soooo many things at once at a wider angle than Fiona's Kick (though that kick is amazing).

There's a lot of pots and such in Hoarfrost though. And you can break houses down for more Heavy items to break on their heads.

And.. Weird. Most item's I've gotten/sent in mail have done just fine. Outside of it saying, "Item not received" even though it totally is.

The Monster Hunter comparisons are what almost turned me off to trying it, to be honest. I'd like to think this has been far more fun to play thus far and a lot less... bad. Like, the combat in Monster Hunter is kinda ruined by the canned animations that end up dropping you somewhere 20 yards from what you were fighting by the time they play out. It's far more fluid in this game. That's what I loved right away, the fluid combat. It's simple, but very nicely done.

A lot of the comparisons from Monster Hunter come more from how gear works.
Being that it's mostly from mats that you get from monsters/bosses and looks like it actually came from them..

Makes me think more of Dragon Age mixed with Dynasty Warriors and maybe a little Diablo thrown it? With less hard rock and more whiny blond chicks with arachnid fetishes.

She would love Morrigan.
