Good luck. Glad to see you're finally making that push.

Thanks man. I'm also pondering whether or not I should put up a Buy It now button on the auction, and how much.

I think I set it up so that I get the money back from both figures and the paints, and money to pay Addy back. I might go ahead and add on an extra $10, just for the effort.

Speaking of effort, do you have any idea how hard it is to calculate how much it'll cost you to sell on ebay? They take up around 8~10% of all sales. What's worse is how they word it. "12% off the first $50 and 6% off the remaining cost." It took me forever to figure out how to apease eBay's fees and still come out with a minimum bid where I can buy a Leader figure again.

No clue. I only rarely use eBay.

I used to use eBay a tonne. Got all my Classics figures that way, and a good assortment of other figures too.

It's just I've never really sold anything before. Sure, there was one time when I sold my old Yu-Gi-Oh cards, but that was more to get rid of them than anything. But it took me all freakin' day to get the listing written out and figuring out eBay's weird interface. Took me awhile to realize that in order to properly sell from Canada, you have to be selling through Ebay.ca.

Which does make a lot of sense, really.

So I put up the figures for auction. If you wanna track how it does, the link is in my sig.

Man, I am freaked out about this auction. What if no one bids? What if a better Prime comes on auction before anyone decideds to look at mine?

[/worry]

Think I fucked myself over by setting the starting bid at $70. It was the only way I could even afford a Leader figure after doing the exchange rate, since USD is only 1.06 times that of Canadian currency now.

I'm starting to think this idea was all kinda of stupid right from the start now...

I feel a little better now. There's 96 views of the auction (most of them me), BUT there's 2 people watching it.

They're probably snipers (those guys who bid like $1 more than you with 5 seconds left before closing), but whatever. I'm not the one buying, so I welcome the snipers.

There's another new cat that was abandoned in my apartment complex today. I think maybe just an hour ago.

It's sitting there, so lost, meowing quietly for its owners; running and hiding from anyone that so much as looks at it.

It breaks my heart each time someone abandons an animal around here.

Yes, I know I posted most of this in the Random Thought Thread. Shut up.

Some random dude posted a question on my auction. They wanted to know if I would make some custom Blackout weapons. Sounds good and dandy, but Blackouts are hard to come by, and clipping the weapons to the figure kinda requires installing magnets in the figure itself. I dunno, maybe when Grindor comes out from the new line (he's the same mold) I can just add to him. Still, not sure if I have a spare gattling gun...

Three days left, still no bids. I do have 4 watchers now though. I figure they're snipers. I really hope they come through with some bids at the end. I'm really strting to worry.

I think I should also hold out on buying Transformers for myself for awhile. I'd prefer to put money into this paint-empire thing 'til I hit a sort of maximum productivity. Then I can finish a backlog of any figures I missed.

Been browsing the custom transformers on eBay recently. Y'know, to scout what's being made. Don't wanna produce a figure that's already on the market and such.

There's like half a dozen custom Leader Megatrons there right now, a lot of which look about just as good as I'd do. So there's one figure I'm not doing until those customs die down =/

Still amazed that there's no Leader Primes for auction yet. I would have sworn customizers would've been all over that action since it's such a popular figure. But whatever, I'm glad it turned out like it is, 'cause I know the instant a ROTF Leader Prime's custom-painted up and put on eBay, mine isn't going to sell. Only like 28 hours left on the auction, and STILL no bids.

422 Views and 4 watchers. Dear god I hope the snipers are awake when the time comes. My master plan kinda hinges on this auction selling.

Auction didn't sell. Not even a single bid.

This is depressing...

On the brightside, EBay is having a promotional thing. Free listing fees, so I got to relist it, just without anything fancy. I also lowered the opening bid to $40.

That is a crazy price-reduction, but it kinda had to be done. I know no one wants to pay anything above American retail for this, apparently. So yeah, if you're curious:

Up for auction is a custom-painted Optimus Prime, sold slightly below the retail price of a regular Prime, who also happens to come with a FREE Movie Bumblebee, also custom painted.

=edit=
Y'know what's depressing? Math. I've done up the cost-vs-payout rates on the figures listed on ebay. Given that I have to pay Canadian (read 150% more than US retail) for these figures, there is just no way I can make any money off this. My only hope would be an eccentric fan who just simply HAS to have what I put up right then and there; and that's honestly not something I'd put faith in.

So yeah, that auction in my sig will probably be the last auction you see me do.

Oh sweet. I've got a bid.

And just in time, as a custom ROTF Leader Prime just showed up on eBay.

Wow that's frustrating. There were no fewer than 23 figures between the two Wal-Marts I checked out yesterday. And I could not afford any of them. Seriously, not even Legends figure (which I was surprised to learn that Canadian retail has them going at $7, which is dub).

I've still got $120 to spend on the new Prime for Ebay and another for DV (if the eBay one doesn't work out well) before I can start buying figures for myself. Holy balls.

The takeaway here, though, is that you have a guy who thinks your work is solid. That means possible customer in the future.

True.

So that means 2 potential customers in the future, since I recall that dude who asked about Blackout's weapons.

Bidding ends tomorrow at 4PM. Only got 2 watchers this time.

I think I should have whored it more on twitter. That seems to be how I got so many views last time I put it up.

But hey, at least there's a bid this time.

Prime and Bumblebee sold for $41 dollars to some dude in California.

I would've liked more... but oh well.

Laying in a chair trying to be still while having a minor seizure while keeping your tongue from touching the backs of your lower-front teeth while 2 people install a retaining there has to be one of, if not the most, difficult mental tasks I've ever had to do.

Went to the Post Office...

Shipping it to California would cost $32.81CAD according to the computers at the Post Office.

According to canadapost.ca, it would cost $23CAD to ship it out.

Regardless, I offered the dude the option of backing out. Shipping out of Canada is hardcore expesnive. No wonder there's no Canadian customizers!

Let's see, taking all this into account... $60CAD for a Leader figure, about $5-7.50CAD for paints, and then $25 for shipping. It'll cost me $100 a figure to get these out.

wow, that's just... wow. I think my plan on getting money is offically killed.

Also depressing thing from today: overall I'm getting about $20 back from that auction, after putting about $90 into the thing...

Just so you guys know, I'll be vanishing from the internet come Tuesday. That's when all the theater workers will be Revenge of the Fallen while assembling reels, and will spoil a lot of the movie.

I'll still show up on MSN in case you guys wanna talk and stuff until Friday I think, at which point I have to go to Maine for an undetermined number of days (pretty much until someone can afford to get me back here).

Just figured I'd say now, since I felt like updating, and that I probably wouldn't be updating on Monday, which'll largely be spent freaking out as to how I'll manage to get to Maine.

There's a figure on Ebay which I could easilly make in 20 minutes with a spray can of gloss finish and possibly chrome. It looks completely out of place in a collection unless the entire display was also "chromed"

And honestly, the non-silver colours were made much darker, making the figure stand out waaay less and also hides just about all the details.

It's going for $300.

Perhaps you need to start making a lot more of those 20 minute figures and sell them for the same or lower price.

Heh.

Possibly. I have noticed that chromed or otherwise glossed figures DO sell a lot better, and I can get some of that finish in a spray can.

I dunno, we'll see. Funds are short as it is.

Things went well at the Band Office today and I got enough money to go to Maine.

All I need to do now is find a ride by the end of the day.
