After reading the PA Report about this game and especially after seeing some of the in-game footage ( particularly the housing trailer ), I'm really looking forward to this.
Looking at WildStar's Pixar-like visuals, and hearing its wacky characters voiced by the likes of Tara Strong and Jim Cummings, you might think that the game doesn't take itself seriously. You'd be wrong.
WildStar is an ambitious upcoming MMORPG from Carbine Studios. The game commits fully to its cartoonish aesthetic, with exaggerated motions and over-the-top designs, while blending sci-fi and fantasy genres with a world that utilizes technology, psychic powers, and magic, sometimes all at once.
It's basically Outlaw Star meets World of Warcraft meets The Incredibles, and it's as good as that sounds.
It's by NCSoft, so I'm assuming it's going to be like Guild Wars and be a one-time payment.
Besides opening up an opportunity for the community to make a suggestion for a type of item in-game, reading this page opened me up to a few notes about the existing Item Slots ( gauging the way it's worded ):
- There are currently 9 item slots on a character: Weapon, Shield, Chest Armor, Shoulder Armor, Hand Armor, Feet Armor, Leg Armor, Head Armor, and Gadget.
- Each of those item slots will have visual changes on the character.
- Due to the game's Circuit Board Crafting system, items will have several "slots" in them for mixing and matching chips/circuits/whatever technology, taking other parts out of other items and using them to upgrade your existing items for maximum performance.
From the look of videos and if you look at the hands that give thumbs up you will see an Undead hand, so the Undead are almost confirmed for Exiles, not to mention you see syringes and such in their "bed", no idea who the one for the Dominion is..
I also think this housing system looks pretty neat...
Devs haven't stated for certain whether or not they are going Sub or F2P but they have stated in interviews that its more than likely going to be Subscription, as they as game players are sick of the current F2P models of nickle and dime your ass for everything, lock everything cool away in the cash shop, etc. They want you to be able to find EVERYTHING in the world, or craft it.
This game is currently in open beta until the 18th and is being released next month. I just want to warn people to try it before they think about buying it because there seems to be a lot of optimization problems right now. I don't have a high end video card but on most modern games I can still get 60fps with medium-high graphics settings and in this game I was struggling to get 30fps with really low settings. I also had the sound randomly just cut out after playing for a bit.
It's really pretty fun already. I only played one early beta weekend, but I'm thinking of getting it later if enough people play.

I want to like it, but I only tend to hear about it from people who I know only care about it because of the art and who wouldn't give other possiblybettergames the time of day just because their art is more realistic and less exaggerated. The same kind of people who, for example, will only watch certain anime series because of the art or animation and then say all other anime is shit. It's a really dumb reason for me to be put off by a game, and I won't deny that, but it's something I can't shake.
I'll still eventually try it. It looks pretty and has some interesting ideas. Not all terribly new ones, but still, interesting.
Wildstar just went Free-to-Play. And since I was in the Closed Beta pre-subscription, I get a kickass hoverboard and trench coat! Made two characters for both factions in the second pve server: Vilaren Sorkult...
Spoiler for Vilaren Sorkult:
And Mita Chondria
Spoiler for Mita Chondria:
Might as well give this game a shot since it's a Triple A game that went free. At least you don't have to buy this to play it like Secret World (as much as I like that game) and ESO.
