Among the injured: a 9-year-old girl, a 7-year-old, 12-year-old boys with leg injuries, a 2-year-old boy with a head injury. One of the confirmed dead is an 8-year-old boy, according to Boston NPR. Boston hospitals reporting "multiple amputations". Perhaps jumping the gun a bit, CBS is reporting that a Saudi national is in custody -- and that he's cooperative with authorities and denies involvement.

A note on the Saudi man, per the New York Times:

"It was unclear Monday evening who might be responsible for the blast. Although investigators said that they were speaking to a Saudi citizen who was injured in the blast, several law enforcement officials took pains to note that no one was in custody."

...

"Officials stressed that they had no suspects in the attack. The Saudi man, who was interviewed at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, had been seen running from the scene of the first explosion, a person briefed on preliminary developments in the investigation said on Monday afternoon. A law enforcement official said later Monday that the man, was in the United States on a student visa and came under scrutiny because of his injuries, his proximity to the blasts and his nationality — but added that he was not known to federal authorities and that his role in the attack, if any, was unclear."

ABC News probing the Saudi angle, mentioning that the police have no suspects but also profiling him like a suspect. He's a 20-year-old man here on a student visa, apparently, and has no prior criminal record.

Updates on killed/wounded now stand at 3 killed, and either 133-144 wounded.

Worth noting that I don't live in Massachusetts, and am fine, as such.

My heart goes out to everybody affected though, this is absolutely terrible, and I hope some news comes to light soon regarding who and why.

From ESPN this morning:

Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick on Tuesday contradicted earlier reports on the number of unexploded bombs at the Boston Marathon, saying that the only explosives were the ones that went off near the race's finish line Monday.

"Two and only two explosive devices were found yesterday," Patrick said, adding that many other parcels were examined. "There were no unexploded explosive devices found."

Special Agent in Charge Richard DesLauriers said Tuesday that there are no known additional threats.

Three people were killed, including an 8-year-old boy, and more than 150 injured by two explosions just seconds apart near the finish line. Police commissioner Ed Davis said 176 victims came to hospitals around Boston, and 17 of those are in critical condition.

I've heard various reports about this, but the AP story on ESPN sums it all up:

Quote:
The two bombs that ripped through the crowds at the Boston Marathon, killing three people and wounding more than 170, were fashioned out of pressure cookers and packed with shards of metal, nails and ball bearings, a person briefed on the investigation told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

The details on the apparently crude but deadly explosives emerged as investigators appealed to the public for amateur video and photos that might yield clues, and the chief FBI agent in Boston vowed "we will go to the ends of the Earth" to find those responsible.

A person who spoke to AP on the condition of anonymity because the investigation was still going on said that the explosives were put in 6-liter pressure cookers, placed in black duffel bags and left on the ground. They were packed with shrapnel, the person said.

The person said law enforcement officials have some of the bomb components but do not yet know what was used to set off the explosives.

Earlier, a doctor treating the wounded appeared to corroborate the person's account, saying one of the victims was maimed by what looked like ball bearings or BBs.

"We've removed BBs and we've removed nails from kids. One of the sickest things for me was just to see nails sticking out of a little girl's body," said Dr. David Mooney, director of the trauma center at Boston Children's Hospital.

Two children remain in critical condition at the hospital with serious leg injuries. Mooney said that tourniquets applied by emergency responders at the race saved the children's lives.

Well, yeah. Then again, I guess you weren't up all night watching the news unfold like I was. That thing never ended. It evolved into what you're seeing now over the course of the night and morning.

Yeah, from what little I know of Chechnya, it is a predominantly Islamic country.

And yes, the older brother who died was apparently running at police when he was shot down. It sounds like the bomb he had strapped to him went off in some capacity, but it sure didn't look like it when they showed his body on the news earlier this morning. You couldn't see any marks. I actually thought he was still alive and apparently so did the news networks.

I for one was up all night following this, having slept for maybe an hour. And I'm up drinking coffee. All I can think is this is going to just rip open more paranoia wounds. I don't know if that sentence made sense since I haven't slept, but it does to me.

Chechnya? I wasn't expecting that at all. But yeah, okay. The Chechen terrorists are a really hateful group.

Here's a link to one of the guys' twitter accounts https://twitter.com/J_tsar/
It's weird looking at his twitter, he quotes eminem, retweets funny videos and jokes with pals.

edit: he eats waffles, just sayin

According to what I'm listening to, watching, etc right now, it's over, they've captured him alive (but he's injured from last night I believe). Was hiding in a boat in someone's backyard.

He has been caught, yes.

After the perimeter was lifted, a man saw blood leading to the boat in his backyard and lifted the tarp to see the bloodied suspect which he then immediately called 911 to report. There were two hundred rounds of ammunition exchanged. While it is assumed he was hit during this incident, he has been bleeding since the exchange fire yesterday.

President Obama has given his speech on these events, including the explosion in West Texas. He has told Americans not to jump to conclusions based on this suspect's faith and ethnicity.

The suspect has not been given the Miranda warning. Being exempt from this for 48 hours for interrogation.

Looking at a Twitter account of a man that can just kill people and see such normal stuff is pretty disturbing.

All in all. He has been caught. Thank God. This week can end on a at least a somewhat good note.

Now that they have him, all I'm seeing is talk of conspiracy theories after his father and aunt were both, "They didn't do it. They were framed."

Gotta love the rapid change from people.
