Default Kazeplay Thread

Hey everyone!

Sadly PAX is over and another convention passes in which I did not get to cosplay whilst watching so many other people (LOOKING AT YOU MALLORIE) do so and have tons of fun doing it.

As such I've resolved not to let another Con go by in which I'm merely an observer.

I'm starting this thread purely as a way to track the steps I take to create my cosplays, and document the process involved. While wigs and outfits are a part of every step, of course, I'm going to be focusing on the creation of Props. That is weapons, armor, and other nick-knacks that really make a cosplay pop.

If there's one thing I learned from the few that I met, it seems like they "specialize" in one aspect or another. Mostly sewing. Since my interest is in prop-making, that's where I'll focus in this thread. I'll also be taking requests on the side if anyone wants me to try my hand at anything in particular! The only way I'll get better is by practicing!

THE LIST:

- League of Legends: Nottingham Ezreal

- Fire Emblem Awakening: Lon'qu

- Final Fantasy XIV: Mi'qote Paladin w/ Ironworks Armor of Fending

- League of Legends: Sejuani (YEAH THAT'S RIGHT.)

Nottingham Ezreal - League of Legends

References:

Now to slap a disclaimer on this, I am not following these references to every last detail. I'm actually doing a simpler version of him that is still going to be very much recognizable, but more modern looking (and manageable in the LA heat). These are just that, references. There's nothing wrong with putting your own twist on certain characters as long as you're sticking to the general design and it's recognizable. If anyone complains to you otherwise just tell them to kindly shove their entire fist up their ass.

Need:

1. Wig

2. Goggles

3. Jacket

4. Scarf

5. Gauntlet

6. Jeans

7. Boots

-

Okay so! First thing is first. Props. The gauntlet is Ezreal's main prop, and I can't make the gauntlet without making a pattern for my arm, otherwise how would it fit?

So first off, gather materials:

Spoiler for HUGE:

Pretty much everything necessary to make a pattern for any part of the body. Plastic wrap to form a base layer so the tape doesn't stick to your skin, the tape itself to give you something solid to mark on, also to hold the shape and keep everything together. Sharpie to mark, and scissors to cut it.

Wrap the part of the body you're wanting to pattern like so:

Spoiler for HUGE:

Cover it in tape strips. Don't try and just wrap your arm in tape because you'll cut off circulation and it'll be way too tight to do anything with. Simple strips layered over one another is ideal:

Spoiler for HUGE:

Then I drew a few lines and cut it out:

Spoiler for HUGE:

After which I traced onto a piece of Wonderflex (A thermoplastic material that becomes moldable when heated to high temperatures), the material that will form the base of the gauntlet:

Spoiler for HUGE:

And then I cut that out as well:

Spoiler for HUGE:

And voila, you have yourself a mini-skirt pattern.

I'll continue with shaping the Wonderflex tomorrow when I'm not half awake. LOL JK PART 2

-

Notes:

- I'm starting to wonder if I should use EVA Foam encased in Worbla. Or maybe a craft foam interior encased in Worbla, instead of the solid sheet of Wonderflex I'm using right now. It'd definitely allow for a more sturdy gauntlet instead of one flimsy piece of thermoplastic. HMMM.

- I also need to pick up a cutting mat, better scissors and/or a rotary cutter, EVA Foam Pads, Craft Foam, and more Worbla/Wonderflex.

- UNFORTUNATELY I cut the edges too close and when I went to form the worbla around my arm, the edges opened up and air bubbles did seep in and deformed the worbla. Usually this can be repaired through re-heating, which I am going to do in order to save money and materials. So for future reference, leave enough worbla around the edges to properly seal the foam in!

Reserved for Fire Emblem: Awakening Characters

PAX SOUTH 2016 FE: Awakening COSPLAY GROUP

Kaze: Lon'qu

Nami: Robin

Mallorie: Lucina

Rukia: Say'ri (Tentative)

Nuva: Yarne (Confirmed, Maybe)

-

I CANNOT WAIT TO DO THIS AND I REALLY WANT TO PRACTICE MAKING WEAPONS. ESPECIALLY FALCHION. SO I'M GONNA DO FALCHION.

There are two ways to do this and one will look cleaner than the other. As such, I'm going to go that way which is the EVA Foam route. I'll need a hot glue gun as well so looks like it's time for a trip to Home Depot! But first, we need references:

Lucina's Falchion References:

-

Notes:

- Falchion is huge compared to Lucina, oh my god. I want to guesstimate that from base to tip, it reaches up to Lucina's chest, and a lot of that is the handle. I'll probably have to scale that down some. I don't think anyone is going to get nit-picky if it isn't as long as the sword in-game.

- Because of the length, and because I'll be shipping this bad boy over to Mal, It's gonna need to be collapsible. There's a method to do this, but it'll be tricky and I definitely may screw it up once or twice before I can get it seamless.

Yo Kaze you asked me about fabric paint and here is the stuff I used for Malon's sleeves:

http://www.michaels.com/tulip-soft-f...M10373237.html

It's less expensive in stores but I can't vouch for how it holds up after a wash yet. I'm new to this so Iddaknow what brands to recommend but this is what I used.

Unlike the paint I used on the apron, this stuff is matte so it doesn't have any shine. Unless you want shine, in which case go for dimensional fabric paint (the kind that kids use for making those 3d scribbly designs on t-shirts) and brush it out flat.

Yarne doesn't even wear a loincloth, that's his fur. Boy walks around half-nude.

You're really sure on this Yarne thing.

Fine, you've convinced me. I'll be a fucking rabbit furry. I suppose I do need to figure out what the best way to go about with his blanketed crotch, though.

HAH, Nuva don't worry, it isn't that hard, and we can definitely make it so you're not freezing out there. There are modifications that can be done on the armor, that I'd consider acceptable, so it isn't as revealing and I highly doubt anyone would nitpick about it not being EXACTLY like Yarne. I'll try and sketch something up.
