I have a Radeno HD 7570 you can have for free. I can send it to you and you can try it out and see if it's any good. It's got 1 gig of GDDR5 VRAM. It ran Far Cry 3 decently enough on High at 1440x900. Not the best card by far, but it served me well until I upgraded.

Shit I'd take it, though I don't need it as much as a few other people might. If nobody else claims that shit though I'd love it as I was looking to upgrade around Fall/Winter.

e: Like in all seriousness though, if you need a card go ahead and take it. That one is only slightly better than the one I have so it's not a big deal to me. It'd just allow me to coast a little longer until I feel like I really need to upgrade.

I was able to run Starcraft 2 on ultra with it just fine, and most other games on medium/high at 1920x1080. Farcry 3 was the only one I had to lower the resolution on, but it still looked and ran great.

Like I said, not the best card ever, but it certainly was bad by any means.

If nobody else claims it, it's yours.

Oh dang, I wish I had seen this as well, wouldn't have minded the slight upgrade.

I got a Radeon HD 6870 myself which has been working great.

Okay, so I got my AMD Gigabyte Radeon HD 6670 in the mail, but I have run into a problem.

There's a little card below where it's supposed to go (it's in the way--if I don't remove the fan) and I have no idea what it is or if it's necessary. I did some research and found out that the port it is in is a PCI Express, and that, usually, that's where the standard graphics card goes. If that's the case, I can remove it, replace it, and move on.
But there's some doubt, because it has a little wire that runs up to the power supply, little lights that go out the back indicating power, and another cord that connects to the mother board near the bottom front of the case. I do not know if it's important or not.

Forgive me if I'm being a colossal dumbass; it's three in the morning and I just got off work.

EDIT: Here's an MSPaint doodle of what it looks like inside, since I didn't think to take pictures:

2x EDIT COMBO: More research tells me that the old graphics card is 'integrated' so whatever this is, it's not the graphics card. I'm getting more confused as I go along.

UPDATE!

All is awesome. Turns out that little card was a network adapter. It's been removed to fit the new graphics card, fan and all, and now I'm connected via an external USB adapter.

TIME TO PLAY SOME GAMES

Edit: EVERYTHING IS BEAUTIFUL

Hurray! Glad it all worked out for you.

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/CPU/2

Also good resources for comparing cards. The first one is just kind of a general "which is better", while anandtech's gives great in depth comparisons and frame rate examples from different games at different settings. To anybody looking at cards.

Which you also definitely mad the right choice with cards there, and my initial assumption was wrong! The 6670, despite only having 1GB of video RAM benched a good deal higher. So shame on me!

So, wasn't able to order yesterday since I didn't have enough money on my card. As it turns out, today they put up a $15 off promo code on NewEgg.ca, so thanks to that, I got save some cash, which is sweet.

Anyway got dat i5 ordered and I'm looking forward to getting it.

So, I talked with Ace yesterday trying to see if we could figure it out, but we didn't have much luck, so I figured I'd see if anyone else could offer advice.

I got the new CPU, but it won't work in my PC. My computer turns out, but the BIOS doesn't boot up, screen just stays off with nothing displayed. The computer shows it's on, and the fans are still running, but that's it. I updated the BIOS to see if that would do it, but it didn't seem to.

I currently have my old CPU in here, but I'd like to see if anyone could help me figure out why this is happening, since I'd rather like to use the CPU I spent $250 on.

Do you have the latest version of your BIOS installed? Newer versions might have fixed a compatibility problem or something related to what you're experiencing.

Default New graphics card, is it better?

So, apparently my graphics card got replaced when I took my computer into Best Buy. No idea if it's an improvement, worse, or sidegrade or what but it's definitely different.

My old one was a NVIDIA GeForce GT 320

The new one is apparently a GeForce GT 640

Anyone able to give me a quick answer as to what I've got now?

A 640 is going to be better, but not significantly, and you're not really going to get a solid price/performance ratio out of what you're spending. What's the budget you're looking to work with?

No, I'm not buying a new one, Best Buy replaced my old one with the new one I listed.

They had to replace the motherboard and graphics card, and the GeForce GT 640 is what they used. My old one that I guess broke, was a NVIDIA GeForce GT 320.

Well a 640 is a significant improvement over what you last had, between having 2GB of VRAM now and significantly more shaders, should be able to run games at a higher resolution a lot easier now.

Yeah. Geforce 640 is quite a deal better than a 320. My laptop runs two 650m's and they are not massive improvements over a 640. It's no Geforce Titan, but it'll be a good deal better than what you were working with.

In general this is a good resource to use for stuff like that
http://www.anandtech.com/Bench/CPU/2

and also
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/
although they're less descriptive, they list tons of stuff.

Default First PC Build-Thoughts?

Hey everybody, as the title says I'm looking for thoughts on the following build:

http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Experim...J/saved/dxGnTW

Keep in mind I'm very inexperienced with builds (woo first time) but I've done research over the past couple weeks and came to this build. My price range is right around $1000 (already have all peripherals/OS) and I wanted something that is simple but powerful, with no overclocking or water cooling required because dealing with that stuff scares me. So anyway, how does this look? Any experts out there want to give me some advice?

Thank you for your time of course.

All I have is a Thinkpad T430 laptop which I've used for two years and will continue to use for work/mobile needs. It's got an i5-3210m, 4 gigs of slow ram, and integrated HD4000 graphics. Don't get me wrong, I love the thing and it's held up amazingly well for two years, but it's time to move on as far as home computing/gaming goes.

Unless you're overclocking, which I don't think is necessary, I wouldn't buy a CPU cooler. The heatsink they come with is fine. I'd also get a second HDD that's not a solid-state, because with only 250 GB you're going to run out of storage. That video card is bonkers, unless you want to run shit at 4k I don't think you need to spend that much.
