So, Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair comes out on Vita next Tuesday. I've had it pre-ordered and paid off for a few months now. Avoiding spoilers for it already seems harder than it was for the first, which makes little sense to me.
Well, I'm done with the first trial. I can say that I wasn't expecting it to be Teruteru. I knew Leon was the killer in the first game well, well before it even got to the trial. That was piss easy. This one, though? There was all kinds of double agent shit going on right in the first murder.
And Nagito is still giving me Makoto Naegi vibes. Like, seriously. I don't know what his deal is, but I would not be surprised to see that the events of the last game made that fucker go crazy and Nagito is actually him.
The outcome of the second case in Danganronpa 2 made me tear up a little. I didn't even like the character(s) and it made me tear up a little. It could've stood to be a little more anime hokey and a little less gut-wrenching! Because reasons.
...I hated the fucker. I wished someone had killed him days and days ago. Now that someone finally has, and I see how fucked up and sadistic they were about doing it, I kind of feel bad. This is probably the most gruesome murder in the series by a long shot. The moment I saw the body, the first thing out of my mouth was, "Jesus fucking Christ."
Oh, also, I think he's probably Makoto Naegi. I kind of did well before Monokuma kept dropping hints about it. He kind of looks and sounds like him and, of course, has the same stupid Ultimate Luck talent. If it is Makoto, then I guess the events in the last game straight up fucked him in the head. Makoto sure was blabbering on about hope this and hope that at the end of that game.
Oh, also! I had someone (I think Dogma, maybe?) ask me a few weeks back if this game takes place before, during, or after the first. I guess I'll answer that here, behind a spoiler tag. Gonna keep it vague, so it doesn't give away murders or big details into how the two are or aren't connected, but I'll say when it takes place and at least how you learn that.
Spoiler for STUFF:
It takes place seemingly well after the first game. A few years, at least? You eventually find a journal filled with information on the original killing game with the first sixteen students at Hope's Peak. It also shows the survivors from that game in the journal, one of which the kids in this game already know.
I'm starting to think Nagito killed himself. Not that it was suicide, but that someone diced him up and let him bleed out, lose strength, and ultimately impale himself with the spear hanging from the rafters. I have no idea who it would be, though. Sonia seems most likely, maybe Kazuichi, but man. I dunno. The only person I've seen thus far who fits this twisted fucking M.O. is Mikan. I'm still not 100% certain Monokuma actually killed her (never saw her die like the other three), but I think making her the killer again might be kind of dumb.
Oh, Nagito, you sick fuck. Maybe I'll end up being wrong here, but I think this cocksucker set up his death so that it was everyone else who would ultimately finish him off, knowingly or not. I don't know what happens in that case.
I just finished the trial. It bothers me. Just like the fifth trial in the last game. So far, I feel they are the two weakest trials in the series, to be honest. I guess I'll have to see if my opinion changes by the time I finish the game, but, yeah.
Early speculation. 'Cause I like doing that and seeing how wrong I am later.
Spoiler for Sixth Chapter, First Investigation:
I think I'm beginning to form a theory as to why Nagito started acting different after he got that file. And why he tried to kill all of us and save Chiaki. And also why Future Foundation seems to be the good guys, but they've spent the game telling us the opposite. And why they removed our memories in the first place, like Monokuma generally would've done.
Maybe I'm way off base here, but I feel like I'm probably going to find out before all is said and done that, unlike the 16 (or technically 14) students from the last game, us 16 are actually bad guys. Junko's underlings. Like, they were trying to reform us, but the Ultimate Despair nerds got to us after the memory wipe first. I'm thinking back to Mikan, after she remembered things. She went sadistic bitchmode and specifically welcomed the despair. Literally mentioned how it'd been a while since she felt that kind of despair. Man, if this is how it turns out... I dunno, man.
Maybe it's just me, but wouldn't making a doll of your murdered friend that talks come across just a little fucked up?
Also chapter 5 was a doozie, was half expecting them to all vote for themselves rather than sending a friend to die. Guess I was wrong, fuck Nagito. I'm with Nami too, I just automatically thought he was the character from the 1st game cause I'm bad at remembering Japanese names. Wasn't until you mention it that I noticed the two separate names.
