Because we need one.

New albums, new singles, artist news, suggestions, elitism; just whack it all in here.

So biggest news right now is probably that The King of Limbs was out a day early.

Listening to it for the first time right now, and right now I love it. Has more of a Kid A feel to it, which is nothing but good. Plus look at Thom Yorke dance, he just keeps getting odder.

Also, in case anyone missed it, Here's the new Stroke's single

I'm not a huuuge fan of The Strokes, but this is alright. Just typical them really.

For people who don't know, 2011 is set to be a pretty good year for music. Here's some artists which are expected to release new albums this year.

The Antlers
Blur
Beastie Boys (It'll probably suck but I'll give them a chance)
Coldplay (HATERS GON HATE)
Death Cab for Cutie
Dr Dre
Kanye and Jay-Z collab
... Gaga
Lupe Fiasco
M83 (They're awesome, look them up)
Mogwai
The Mountain Goats
Noah and the Whale
Portishead
R.E.M (Again, it'll probably suck)
The Rapture
The Strokes
Toro Y Moi

and we've already had some pretty good stuff from Iron & Wine, Radiohead and PJ Harvey. So yeah, POTENTIAL.

You think Portishead's expected album will be good? I don't think I quite "got" their last album, Third. Also, where did you pick that information up? Their wikipedia article doesn't mention anything about it, and those people are crazy about updating information. They're like gargoyles from Snow Crash except they don't make money off of it.

I'm totally up for some more Coldplay. Viva La Vida was a surprisingly good, not a dull track in the entire thing.

Agreed. But then they couldn't really get worse than X&Y.

What's a good starting point for Coldplay? I never really got into them, and they don't seem as bad as most people say.

A Rush of Blood to the Head is probably where most people start. Could easily just listen to the albums in order though.

Just prepare to be disappointed with X&Y; and don't start with it. It has a few good songs but it's mostly bad compared to the other stuff. Oh and don't miss out on Prospekt's March, it's an EP released after Viva La Vida, but I think it's better.

I still don't get all the Coldplay hate. I know it's cool to hate them, but I don't see why they deserve it. they were one of the best bands in the early 2000s. Hell, Coldplay are what got me into music when I was in my teens. A Rush of Blood to the Head was probably the first album I listened to over and over again; and The Scientist is still one of my favourite songs.

I never quite got it either. I remember I had Yellow as one of the music videos I recorded onto a long tape of music videos. Of course I also had two Vertical Horizon videos and that Jennifer Lopez virus remake of Waiting for Tonight (I am quite serious in saying that it was played about 30 times at the one dance I decided to attend (that was also the dance my principal decided to forcibly grab my arm from behind as though I was about to start a fight, just for my shirt coming slightly untucked)).

But I digress. I think I was in with a bad clique that crushed individual opinions in Jr. High - High School. Of course, this was the only group that thought that our school could have an Anime club, so I stuck around. I hated in order to not be quite as outcast. I don't know what their excuse was though.

Anyway...

I quite liked the new Cage the Elephant album, Thank You Happy Birthday. It was different, but it had a lot to offer. I particularly liked Always Something, Right Before My Eyes and Around My Head (very Pixies).

I'm actually listening to The Scientist right now. I'm really enjoying this album so far, kind of surprised at how many of these songs I know. The only thing I really had against these guys was Kayne West, but that's just silly.

Once you're done with A Rush of Blood I suggest going Parachutes, then X&Y, then Viva La Vida and then Prospekt's March. If you want to keep listening to them afterwards that is.

I'm not a big fan of Cage the Elephant. They're not bad but it's just the same old stuff...

Yeah, that bit about them being "saviors" is dumb, but they have quite listenable music. What is up with Thank You Happy Birthday not being released in the UK till March of this year though? That seems excessive.

Just been listening to lots of Toro Y Moi.

He's amazing if you like electronica/chillwave stuff.

I think it's mostly that they're considered a 'Radiohead-lite' sort of band. Before 'Viva' they weren't exactly taking their sound into a different or unique direction - 'X&Y' was basically just stagnant filler with a couple of nice singles.

Hell, I recall when the tracklist to 'Viva' came out and a friend of mine joked how '42' was simply them copying Radiohead by using a Hitchhiker's reference like Paranoid Android.

Being really getting into mashups recently, they're great to work to. Anyone know any good artists? No idea if anyone else here likes mashups.

Right now I've been listening to Girl Talk, Super Mash Bros, The Hood Internet and Team Teamwork.

Nice surprise since I wasn't even aware they were recording again. I like it.

So I haven't been paying attention to anything that's come out this year. Heard that Mogwai's new album is nowhere near their old work, Get Up Gets put out a pretty good album and that Glassjaw also had a solid release. What else has come out this year (other than King of Limbs) that is worth having?
