Ahhhhh sweeeet. Wish I could figure out where exactly its showing right now, but Im sure that information will be out in the next few weeks. Probably not in my state, as I don't think any of my local theaters have 4k projectors yet, but who knows!
Oh good then Alabama has a chance! Well as much of a chance as Alabama has at getting any sort of limited release movies, but the last article I read said somewhere around 700 cinemas for the US and Canada.
Ghostbusters III is now as close to official as it's ever been. Paul Feig is now officially attached to direct it. He's rebooting it and giving it an all female cast. The all female cast is whatever. I can get behind that, but it bothers me that there is supposedly zero continuity with the series. It's a reboot, with new characters (I'm assuming), and zero ties to anything that happened prior in the story. Why not just make it a brand, new property at that point? Seems kind of dumb and I hope they tie it to the first two films in some way, even if only tangentially.
That said! I will watch it, whatever it ends up being. Whatever, man. It's Ghostbusters, even if it's not. Seems so crazy that it took this to get Sony to green light the project, when other studios are always running around saying that big budget, female-lead films like this aren't worth the risk. Also, Bill Murray gave his suggestions for who he feels would make a good cast.
They don't specifically have to reference the game, but I mean, a franchise of Ghostbusters would work fine. I still don't really see the need to do a full reboot.
But yeah, Ghostbusters. I'll watch it regardless. They could come up with the dumbest plot, and it would take them casting my most hated actors/actresses to make me even hesitate about seeing it, before I just eventually watch it anyway.
Filming has already begun. There are a few set photos of the cast out there already.
Here's Kristen Wiig as Erin Gilbert (a besmirched Columbia University professor and author of the paranormal):
And Melissa McCarthy as Abby Bergman (co-authored a book with Gilbert) with Kate McKinnon as Jillian Holtzmann (Bergman's partner):
Leslie Jones will be playing Patty Tolan, a New York subway worker who discovers the main supernatural focus of the film. Chris Hemsworth is also in it and plays Kevin, their receptionist. He's basically Janine Melnitz.
