It looks like I won't be posting for a while.

My dad has just informed me that tomorrow he is going to cut off the internet, television, gas, everything except food (which my mom buys) and electricity. Even the air conditioning is going to be gone, and it's over 100 degrees here daily.

Five years of strife at home, and I'm not sure how much more I can take. This is one of the worse incidences but at least there was no violence.

I need gas to get to school and college, and my mom only makes so much on her own. Not quite sure what's going on at this point. I don't know if we're leaving for the night or what.

Well, my computer is about to die.

Wish me luck, you guys.

Good news and bad.

Bad news: there ended up being some violence. My dad kept insulting my mom's dead father and calling her names until she slapped him. And then he called the police.

Or he didn't. I'm not exactly sure because he is a compulsive liar and the cops never showed up. But he's gotten her sent to jail before, so I was pretty scared.

He did end up calling all of my mom's family, though, to gloat about how she was going to jail. He also disconnected all the phones and locked my mom's cell phone in his safe so we couldn't call anyone, and told us we couldn't take a car to leave or he'd call the cops for us stealing because the cars are in his name (not the first time any of this has happened; he's crazy). He couldn't find my cell phone, though, so I have it on me now. Basically all of the family came down to the house and screamed and yelled at each other for a while. Then they took me and my mom and my brother away to my aunt's.

Good news: We're living with my aunt for now, so I'm out of that environment.

No offense taken, at all.

And thank you. Me too.

I just wish I could trust my mom not to walk back into a bad relationship.

I am very excited for Homecoming now.

I just found out that I was voted onto court as Class Favorite, Most Likely to Succeed, and Homecoming Queen Nominee.

Dress shopping is going to be so much fun.

Use all three as pedestals of power and slay all your enemies. Then eat their hearts and gain their courage. Then become the highlander.

Or you know be a normal american highschooler and enjoy your time.

Have fun.

Oh, and I just feel like mentioning this, since I know a few girls who've had this problem: try not to spend too much on your dress unless you plan to wear it again. I know, I know; there's some kind of anathema girls have to wearing the same dress again. But if it's a dress you're only going to wear once, and you'll never find another use for it again except to hang in your closet somewhere... Probably limit your spending. Or find a good use for it once it's been worn and done away with.

I don't have a problem with wearing dresses again. Last year I was on court, too, and I'm wearing that same dress to this year's prom. It's like that dress was made for me. And it's yellow!

I'm probably going to do what I always do when I need a formal dress. There's a formal/wedding dress resale shop in a town nearby and you can get some beautiful stuff there. I can sell it back when I don't need it anymore.

One year I found a great dress at Penney's, and it wasn't very expensive at all, so I'll definitely be looking there again.

I would, but that was last year's theme.

Also, while I have seen some truly amazing duct tape dresses (and you can get a scholarship for that, apparently!), I suck at making clothing/operating duct tape.

Make a dress out of packing tape and then flay yourself alive trying to remove it.

I delivered my first speech today. It was autobiographical, and I was absolutely scared witless.

Once I got going, it was so much easier. My class was pretty encouraging.

I told them about the time I tried to leave my house to live off our pastureland when I was about 7. I dressed up in an old Pocahontas Halloween costume, stored pecans in a tree and tried to hunt birds with homemade spears made of hay bale twine and rocks.

And the time I got struck by lightning in the college parking lot.

At one point I said, "yonder" and they about died laughing. But, it was the "aww, we're your friends and we're laughing with you" kind of laughter.

And! I made a 95. I feel like I can do this now.

That's awesome. Grats! Also, you got struck by lightning and lived? Lucky you.

Very lucky.

It hit my umbrella, traveled through me and shot out my fingers on my free hand.

Strangest feeling ever.

The first step is believing you can redirect lightning.

Ohohoho.

Make a lightning rod hat and hold one hand in front of you always.

When it strikes, you'll be ready.

Now I have this image of you wearing Emperor Palpatine's robe and yelling "UNLIMITED POWER!" at the top of your lungs.

Thanks for making my day, Mal.

Haha!

It would be cool if my story ended that way. Instead I ran to the nearest building and told my classmates what happened.

They did not believe me, even though I'm not the sort of girl that lies about lightning.
