I've been messing around playing a bunch of freeware games instead of doing college things recently.
I figured I'd post about them, but maybe I shouldn't make a new thread every time.
Boom is a shooter in the old style of Doom! But it only has 4 colors. It is pretty short and pretty fun too!
1 decreases sensitivity
2 increases it
Hold X to strafe
Z to shoot (and start)
Arrows to move!
other things laterz, was gonna post other stuff but I just got AN IMPORTANT PHONE CALL!

It is also seems like there is some sort of thing going on underneath, but honestly right now is not a time that I want to delve into stuff. It isn't perfectly clear the whole way through anyway. I'm just gonna assume it has something to do with
Spoiler for :O:
All of our friends dying
It is also difficult at some parts that made it frustrating! But maybe I am just not good at videogames.
Anyway play it and see for yourself. It is def. longer than Boom, but still not that long. And it is cool! All you have to do is click on the link and BAM, DOWNLOADED GAME.
Rockabilly head is a game where I guess you want to be a rockabilly. It seems like there are multiple endings here, I very well might've gotten the bad ending.
But fuck, I just can't do this. I just don't have it in me. The rhythm.
It was still pretty cool though, and it's short. If someone doesn't fail, please tell me.
Okay, so I got a different ending that is better. I still definitely failed everything, though.
But the game seemed to view this with some sort of acceptance, like it's a good thing I was bad.
Spoiler for what I think:
So I guess you are dead at the end? You are having your final moments alive and you think back on your life and wonder if it would have been better to become something like a rockabilly (instead of, presumably, the office worker that you are). I've only managed to fail at the dancing, and got two different endings. One was that I tried to dance with the best guy even though I sucked, and I died on the subway leaving a note behind that says "I didn't have it in me". So I guess that's like, I tried to pursue this creative rockabilly-ing even though I was bad and I wasn't succesful for that reason. The other ending I got was I sucked at dancing but then I went over to this one chick who asked me to dance with her, but first I had to stand up to the first guy. I did that and danced with her and I got a kinda happy ending where (I still died) but the note I left behind was "I did the right thing". So I'm gonna assume that means I didn't decide to become a rockabilly, focused on family and lead a good life.
ro9 is a pixel-y rpg where you play 9 characters at once, all controlled by the arrow keys, all the time.
How a game usually plays out is you press the arrow keys a bunch until half of your dudes are dead, and then you actually start paying attention to what the fuck you are doing.
It is actually really great and a lot of fun, strangely, possibly just due to the sound effects. Despite being killed by them more often than not, I always get excited when approaching a boss monster, just cuz I'll hear "what ho!".
Bumping this up, I have recently taken a liking for freeware games once more.
Spoiler for Hydra Castle Labyrinth:
Genre: Action Platformer AKA METROIDVANIA
Note: xpadder works better than the included controller config
So you're the bigheaded kawaii little knight guy on the right. You start out with a sword and the ability to jump around. Plus you have a cape, which is a huge plus. No map. No stats. JUMP AT DUDES AND HIT THEM WITH YOUR SWORD LIKE A BOSS.
A large interconnected amount of screens ala metroid is how the game is laid out. Access to new items and abilities will allow you to get to areas you previously couldn't reach. When you find a key it will let you open a door to the lair of a boss. The lair contains a few dungeon puzzles, stronger enemies, traps, and eventually a boss fight against a larger and tougher enemy than you are used to. Each lair has its own music too which is pretty boss.
Items you can find range from subweapons which consume those points below the lifebar(THINK CASTLEVANIA), to a shield to deflect projectiles, double jump, etc.
The game controls well. You have a button for jumping. A button for slashing with your sword. A button for using your subweapons. A button for switching your subweapons. A menu button. That's it. Nice and simple. You can't move while slashing on the ground so keeping up your mobility with short jumps is essential to fighting.
Play if you like:
Games without maps
You think multi hit subweapons are cheap
Games that don't suck
I've started giving free-to-play MMOs a go after being bored for so long. Star Trek Online is surprisingly fun, to the point that I might give Champions Online a try. I'm also contemplating playing some DC Universe.
an RPG that is about as eerie or unsettling as the creepiest parts of Earthbound, and I mean that in the best way. You play as yourself who controls the Batter, an enigmatic character who is on a mission to purify. That's all the information I can really give you. I'm like an hour in and I don't ever want to stop.
You may have to install some fonts to make it display properly but .. honestly, worth it.
