Default Mount and Blade: Warband

This expansion is coming out the 31st.
If you buy it off steam, you can play the Beta until it gets released... and the beta is practically the real game with some more bugs, the greatest of which is the screen spamming me for a minute with red text.

Anyways. Multiplayer, progressive character building IN multiplayer (Earn money, buy armor/weps), improved AI, better way to do tactics, you can become your own country/king of a country, make your companions vassals, and other stuff.

26 bucks on steam.

Edit: Forgot to add an opinion.

I'm excited.

Other stuff including MAKING THE ENEMY ACTUALLY FLEE IN TERROR ONCE ON THE BATTLEFIELD. Glee. Now I can happily hack up peasant armies that aren't coming at me piecemeal.

That's actually a little depressing, I'm finding.

Mostly because I am an excellent shot with the bow from horse-top, and they just don't stand a damn chance.

Also cool: They treat you different depending on what gender you are. That's nice. Like more so than just "Ma'am" instead of "sir".

I played the original and enjoyed the hell out of it. Definitely picking this up. That game was addictive.

Been looking at this and the first game and am very interested but is the first game required for or included with the 2nd?

I see now the expansion is stand alone

Do want. I need to get back into M&B sometime. I used to play it all the time. Sucks this costs money. I normally played the version I got off of the Mount & Blade File Repository.

Mount and Blade is probably one of the best games to ever come out of Turkey. Well, actually don't know of any others so that isn't saying a lot. But I love the shit out of this game anyway.

I still need to get this. It'd be cool to play it online with other forumites too.

This game is so much fun. I single handily killed forty men and routed the remaining twenty. Mother fuckers didn't know what hit them.

Ok, yeah. More people need to play this. I'm basically at the point where I'm the most badass motherfucker in all of Swadia and all the other Lords either love me because I save their ass constantly or they hate me because I'm too busy hitting on their babes and beating them in duels so the king can give me more land.

Helped some bitch become queen of swadia, fuck-tress then demoted me from warmarshal, than took my only city, and then my two fiefs.

Now I'm rebelling to overthrow the lady that I just finished rebelling to overthrow the guys before them.

I think I'll just kill everyone.

When you overthrow the former ruler, you always get demoted from warmarshal, plus fiefs are redistributed. Sometimes unevenly against the player.

Started playing this again, with the Floris mod installed. Just lots of good general changes and additions. Was working as a mercenary for the Rhodoks, but left because of all the wars so I can focus on just raising my own army and not getting my shit kicked in all the time by whoever the Doge happens to piss off. Probably join back up with them when I've got my own sizable force.

Downloaded the Clash of Kings mod for this, haven't played much of it yet, but hearing this

on the main menu has got me pretty excited.

Yep, more than anything it's just the setting and characters, but it's still really good. It's a great setting for the gameplay, so I have no complaints.

No it's ok army, just go ahead and stand in the water and don't actually scale the castle wars. I can fight them all myself. No really. It's cool.

Anybody have any tips for playing this? I think I'm doing pretty good, but if there's something I should know that I should be doing I'd want to know. Besides recruiting Rolf, son of Rolf, of the most ancient and puissant House of Rolf, which I already did.

I've got a couple of the achievements (just as a measure of where I'm at):

Man Eater: Kill 50 men as a female character.
Get Up Stand Up (is this a reference to that House of Pain track?): Cleanse the town of bandits in the opening mission.
Sold Into Slavery: Sell 5 people to the ransom broker
Medieval Times (twice): Enter and win a tournament.
Romantic Warrior: Learn 3 poems from tavern bards.
Sassy!: As a female character get into a duel (that didn't happen) with male lord by insulting him (that part did).
Talking Helps: Engage in a conversation with a hero character through the party screen.
Talk of the Town: As a female character, raise your renown to 50.

There are a few places you could go. Usually becoming a merc for a lord or swearing fealty to a king will get you lots of xp, gold, and loot. If you swear fealty, you will start earning land as the king sees fit (he may grant you his shittiest town when you swear fealty).

Once you gain enough power and renown, you can start playing politics a bit and find out who you really want to side with. You even have the chance to help someone take over the throne (much easier than doing it yourself)by finding the would-be usurpers in taverns around the continent... Or you can run off, take a castle and proclaim yourself Queen. Expect very heavy resistance if you do this. Would recommend you make lots of friends in high places before you try.

You could also try trading and amassing a fortune without having to choose a side. This does take more time and patience, though.

As much as I love this game and have played the hell out of it, I feel like I'd be a very poor person for advice because even when I get a city and a town under my control something inevitably goes to shit and I'm back to square one sitting in the mud with no army or land.

Oh, I've mostly been doing jobs while amassing wealth, renown and right to rule.

I already have: 234 renown, 2 honour, 12 right to rule and am level 12. I might have 15 but... actually, if the blackout fucked up my save I'll have 0 of everything, but I was doing pretty good. Running around with 6 heroes and 13 volunteers.

This was a pretty productive match:
Your Casualties: 3 (wounded) Their Casualties: 34 (killed), 4 (wounded)

I've just been riding in on horseback with my scimitar slashing some fools.

Also, fuck Kingdom of Vaegirs and their shitty tournaments I can't win. Lances are shit. I literally rode around my opponent in circles banging my lance into his shield for ten minutes before I just gave up,

Don't use the lance like other weapons. Build up momentum and you'll 'couch' the lance as long as you're not preparing a strike. Then ram into people for instant death 500% more damage kills.

This was a jousting lance, so it does blunt damage. And it takes a million years to attack with. Possibly because my skill in polearms isn't great and should be improved. Every time I tried to get as far away as I could, then charge in resulted in doing 0 damage and getting like 9 damage done to my horse. My opponent got to walk around with a hatchet which would have been preferable. If the arena was a bit bigger it might have been better.

Last time I played this, I was a woman who took over a castle at random then became the leader of a tiny city-state that kept fighting off invaders with only little time for taking over other castles.

I think I stopped playing not because of the strategic difficulty but because I kept forgetting which character hated who. I might give it another go after I finish Dark Souls 2.
