Default Art Tutorials Thread

So back on the older forums we had a thread that linked to various helpful art/drawing tutorials, and browsing around a bit I thought maybe we could bring that back.

Drawing and anatomy tutorials

alexds1 on deviantART has a whole series of incredibly helpful tutorials. I will link them all right here just so you don't have to read the artist's comments!
http://alexds1.deviantart.com/art/Fe...rial-104865472 - Fellas Tutorial
http://alexds1.deviantart.com/art/La...orial-98311607 - Ladies Tutorial - NSFW
http://alexds1.deviantart.com/art/Po...orial-72010406 - Pose Tutorial
http://alexds1.deviantart.com/art/Ex...orial-77399204 - Expressions/Head Tutorial
http://alexds1.deviantart.com/art/Ha...orial-83785318 - Hand Tutorial
http://alexds1.deviantart.com/art/Fo...orial-90158269 - Foot Tutorial

http://www.posemaniacs.com/ - From Ves. VERY good anatomy/pose website. LRN2REFERENCE.

Naturally the best thing to do is PRACTICE. 8| Sketch from references and all that. But these things teach you some neato tricks.

Coloring/digital tutorials

Wheaman has a handful. Written kinda slang-ish but it's not terrible.
http://wheaman.deviantart.com/art/Wh...oshop-67764941 - Intro to Photoshop - Obviously unnecessary if you are familiar with Photoshop
http://wheaman.deviantart.com/art/Wh...-Tute-67917466 - Line Tutorial
http://wheaman.deviantart.com/art/Wh...-Tute-68017883 - Stroke Tutorial - Will be applying this on the next tutorial!
http://wheaman.deviantart.com/art/Wh...-Tute-70000749 - Coloring Tutorial

http://yuni.deviantart.com/art/Color...nique-61468467 - Another coloring technique!

http://nekoni.deviantart.com/art/Cel...nsei-131988415 - LRN2SHADE, or cell shade. Quite handy even if you don't want to cell shade.

http://prettyprincesslady54.devianta...-Help-36039581 -
Very quick, very basic tutorial for getting your pencil lines off the white paper. Quite handy in some cases.

http://www.melissaclifton.com/tutorial-comicbook.html - Teaches you how to use the paths tool in Photoshop? 8D;

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSYZBVVcbKg - Kinda neat, though hardly specific. Requires some knowledge of Photoshop and probably a tablet.

Other tutorials

http://0-akasha-0.deviantart.com/art...g-Gif-80801396 How to create a moving GIF with Photoshop CS3, but this can be applied to other versions.

Very handy books!

Okay so even I admit that I don't read anymore, but I look at the pictures at least. 83 Sketching from these books can be VERY useful, and even the little bit that I have been doing has helped me IMMENSELY.

Anatomy For the Artist - I own this, it's very nice. Hundreds of pages of bones, muscles and various poses of people. Very handy.
Complete Guide to Drawing from Life - Bridgman is a genius. Was a genius? Whatever. He's created some of the -best- anatomy books I have ever seen, and I highly recommend this book. He also has other books; I bought his hand anatomy book too. (Thanks to Radd for showing me these!)
Action! Cartooning - Very nice guide for poses and whatnots, some anatomy work too but it's all very stylized. I still love these books, too (I bought his fantasy guide too just 'cause). Another suggestion from Radd that I thought I might pass along.

Other handy resources and guides and shit

Posemaniacs.com - Just go there. So awesome for finding poses to reference from or just as practice. The models are skinless (just muscle!) so you can better understand how it all works. And the "random pose viewer" thing is amazing just for sketching.

Stock photography on deviantART is also a really good resource for various poses or whatever. >>

Now share yours. >:|

Generally if you need something and can't seem to find it, Google that shit. "line art tutorial photoshop" is a great thing to enter into Google. Find something good? SHARE IT WITH US.

I had a bunch bookmarked two computers ago but they don't stay during harddrive replacements sooo~ these were pulled from my favorites on devART. It's a start, anyway.

Lemon's Vector Guide

It's pretty long and in-depth, but easy to understand.

Gallery of nude model poses, among much else. She has a whole gallery of drapery, which is fantastic.

For those of us who might do our linework or just draw in Photoshop, here are two ways to make your lines a little "crisper" ( as opposed to the kiddy-soft edges of default PS brushes ).

This gives you a good idea of how affective this is.

I love the extra crispy a lot, it looks like Flash but in Photoshop. BEST.

I came here looking for a tutorial then I remembered I posted it on the old old forums. Ugh.

If you're looking for ideas or reference sources for clothes, I recommend checking out Japanese Streets.

Also, pixelovely.com (NSFW due to real-life nude photos) has a lot of reference pics of poses and offers an exercise session for gesture/figure drawing, as well as animal drawings.

I just discovered that my expired photoshop trial is glitched and I can continue using it anyway.

And this is AMAZING

Hey HEY um uh I'm not sure where I should've put this question but

what kind of sketch books should I look for? I need one but I'm not sure what kind I should get...

Also I'm super interested in pen-brushes! But I've got no clue where to start. Help!
