Spoiler for Ending theory:
I'm pretty damn positive he saved her because he saw her as his surrogate daughter and him being a father who lost his child he couldn't bear the thought of losing another. It was completely fucking selfish and he more than likely doomed the entire human race to a slow painful death, but I can't say I wouldn't make his choice as well.

I also really, really want to just say that-
Spoiler for SPOILER:
The end of the winter segment is one of the most intense and emotional things I've ever seen in a video game. Probably my favorite scene. At the very least, I feel like it was incredibly well done, and really hit me hard in some ways. I guess I just really identify with how protective and fatherly Joel can be.

Spoiler for Spoiler:
I felt a lot of it was that you didn't have a choice. There wasn't a moment where I thought of not saving her being an option and not just mechanically. If I had a choice I still would have shot that doctor in the fucking face.

Also he was just being selfish. Understandable. He lies to her at the end about the Fireflies and he lies about always finding something to fight for. I don't think he felt like he would find another reason to keep on living.

Spoiler for Ending spoilers!:
What Joel did was definitely selfish. I mean, to a point. But I wouldn't really say it was necessarily wrong. As I understand it, the procedure the Fireflies were trying was more or less a shortcut, to make a vaccine that nobody is really sure if it would work or not. So I mean, in that light, it's wrong of them to wheel Ellie straight into surgery and march Joel away at gunpoint without even asking Ellie what she wants to do. I felt like I made it all the way to the end thinking I was finding the 'good guys,' only to find that they kind of reminded me of the military.

But that said, Joel rescued Ellie purely because of how much he cared about her and because he couldn't bear the thought of losing another daughter. And then he lied about it to Ellie. The ending made me feel awfully torn up and depressed.

Just beat it. Utterly fantastic game.

Spoiler for ending:
Joel's reasons were selfish I suppose, but I was with him the entire time. I outright murdered two of the doctors at the end because I didn't want them to kill Ellie.

Beat it. Ending's good. There were things I didn't like about the last level, though.

I just had a thought while watching the TBFP of this. If they took this game and replaced all the infected dudes with dinosaurs, the game would be equally awesome. You probably wouldn't even really have to change that many aspects of the backstory and stuff to have it make sense. Could still keep most of the set pieces and stuff, just change a few spots here and there.

Doesn't look much different. Still, has all the DLC (not that anything but Left Behind matters) and is supposed to look better? Either way, it's still a great game and now it's on PS4. The crappy PS3 architecture apparently made it not fun to port.

I still haven't played Left Behind. Maybe I'll pick this up eventually. Down the road. Some time. I dunno.

This remastered trailer has spoilers in it.

Doesn't look that much better at all, to be honest. But the original already looked fucking gorgeous on PS3, so that's kinda... you know.

I did not really get too far in ps3 version but so far I feel the ps4 version is a lot smoother. Not too far just at the part where
Spoiler for Spoilers:
Ellie straight up shoots a guy in the head saving Joel.
