Yeah, that is pretty neat. People will mostly be ignoring it while playing it (or not playing it), but it's pretty neat. It's a little nostalgic when you consider the music would change when the fight was almost over in the original games, too. I've always liked the music in this series. I'm sure the original composers aren't working on it, but who knows, maybe they are.

THUNDAAHHHH

Initial prices for KI: 20$ for the regular/base game, 40$ for what i would call, the + version (dlc for original costumes on some characters, port of the first Killer Instinct (online play isn't confirmed yet) and some extra content).

My guess is that the "complete package" is going to be at 60 bucks for most of the content that is in the 40$ deal, or 50 bucks for the whole game minus extra content (unless microsoft decides to jack up the price).

so yeah, if i were to buy it, i would wait for the complete package because, buying it as "seasonal content" would mean that i will spend more for the game once everything comes out.

I hear individual characters are going to be around $5 bucks a pop if you decide to buy the game piecemeal.

At which point I just don't understand why you wouldn't drop the $20 on it. But people will do what people want I suppose.

Anyway, I hate to admit it but I would at least like to get my hands on the game and give it a shot. Thunder looks pretty amazing and I only keep hearing good things about the game. I'm just not going to be dropping the money on a XBO anytime soon so bleh. I'm still really skeptical, but they've brought me around to at least giving it a chance.

I'll likely be getting the console, so I'll get to see how good or bad it is. Just... not as Jago. Worst fucking character in the series.

Apparently the fifth character reveal is an entirely new character named Sadira:

A couple of character trailers.

Maybe this is just me, but I always thought Orchid was black.

And one for the new character, Sadira.

I would like to say that I have been really won over by this game since the initial reveal and it really is the only launch game between both new systems that I really want to play. If this was released as a 24 character fighting game with a single player/arcade mode this would have been a system seller for sure. However as it is, it looks ridiculously solid and may entice a decision I wouldn't normally make later on when there are more games out I care about.

It looks good, but it apparently has something like only six or eight fighters and a dearth of modes right now. I'm hearing the gameplay itself is solid, but there's not much after that at current. I mean, the plan is to continually update it and add new characters, so it's a game with a future I guess, but right now, it sounds a little bare.

Oddly, it's still the only game I have any true interest in between the two consoles right now, too. At least among launch titles.

Not really their fault. They've been given absolutely no time to make a game, which is why it's initially being released with only 6 character with access to up to 8 if you purchase the "full" game. The training mode is supposed to be pretty amazing, though, and while this is being marketed to a mostly hardcore audience it is making a lot of moves to introduce people into the genre and this specific game in general. I really commend the job and effort they've put into this and feel really bad that they didn't have more time to release a full game. But it is what it is and hope that the launch pad they've been given is enough to keep the game afloat for a long time.

Not whose fault? Double Helix or Microsoft? Because it is absolutely the latter's fault. They could've hired a developer and started this much, much earlier. But, either way, like I said... it looks like the game is going to be fleshed out over time anyway. It won't stay bare-bones, so I guess it really doesn't matter in the end. It definitely looks a lot better than it did when they first unveiled it.

Oh, and I want the XB1 and this game to come out already so that people start ripping the soundtrack (what of it that they feasibly can) and putting it online for mass consumption. I've always liked the music in this series.

There's hope for a season 2 of this game, but that will depend on the public reception.

Also, KI has been under so many gameplay changes that this really feels like a solid game. The hype is fucking strong with this one.

It's FTP (arguably), so I'm sure it'll have people picking it up and trying it constantly. I mean, provided people even buy the console.

Double Helix, obviously. It's Microsoft who pushed them to rush this game, especially as a launch title. If they didn't push for that this could have been a full game. Or, as you said, if they reached out much earlier it would have been a completely different situation. Still, there are a bunch of amazing people working on this game and over time it'll be the game it should have been on launch.

They only continue to talk like season 2 exists and will certainly be a thing, which is at the very least a good attitude. I expect there to be much more content and I think this title will do well regardless.

Also I 100% agree and share that sentiment.

No, but Penny Arcade accidentally leaked his existence through the pin set they're selling with the "physical copy". He'll show up when they properly show off Spinal, I'm sure.

Downloading this. Took a little while to navigate to the download, because the Xbox One main menu is... not great. Apparently a few people on my friend list already have it.

I'm not fond of the windows 8 look either, not when you dont have a mouse and keyboard/touch screen to navigate it.

On topic though, I wish this was cross platform.

See, it's not even that. Xbox 360 does that, too, but Xbox 360 makes sense with the way things are laid out. It's a little silly sometimes, but it makes sense. On Xbox One, things are just where ever. There are less menus on the main screen to fuss with and they are all hidden under anything you pick on said screen instead. I don't even bother screwing around with it without voice commands, because the menus scare me.

And yeah, putting it on PC would be nice. Would increase the player base right away.

Jeff, I'm sure you're probably the only other one here that's played this, so I had a question for you. It's nothing that affects the gameplay, but I was wondering if you noticed a little lag on the models during character select, too.
