I think Jirra means they're wanting it to be a fun, not serious vibe so people, regardless of skill/dedication to the series, will be able to just hop in, play, and have fun while (hopefully) working together. That and characters having their own personalities like in TF2, which is wonderful.

But considering DotA's/DotA-likes' communities the 'have fun' thing may die quickly.

You should actually read the entire thing. They talk about maintaining the steep learning curve for the game, but adding a lot of tutorial options and ways for veteran players to coach newbies.

Dota 2 beta Surveys are going out if you opted in. Might have to exit steam when you click the link for the survey, it just asks you a few questions, gets your PC specs, then asks you some questions about whether you played Dota recently and all (I haven't played the original in a while and mostly played HoN/LoL so it took me a bit to remember.)

You might have to exit steam in order to click that steam survey link if it doesn't pop up while you're in steam. (You have to log in and it should pop up if it didn't work earlier and you had to exit steam)

http://blog.dota2.com/2011/10/the-sl...-dragon-wakes/
Also, they're giving people that get in an invite or two to give to friends.

It took me a few tries too. I had to redo the hardware survey, try that if that helps.

Someone should enter a blood pact with me to exchange invites if either of us get one.

To be honest, I'm not expecting too much of an improvement over DOTA with all these DOTA purists not wanting change at all for the most part. Though with Valve it's possible, but if they listen to too much of the idiots or purists, it's just gonna scare off people or not end up as enjoyable an experience. I do like the whole coaching, spectator system and stuff so far though. (HoN is implementing this soon too though)

I want this game. I want it early.

If anyone has a copy or a key or whatever, shoot me a message here or on Steam and I'll trade you some sweet hats or maybe a 5-10 dollar game. :x

Just got my Dota 2 key out of nowhere, a few friends have dibs on keys first (if they don't already have them), so I'll let you guys know if I get any spares.

I think I'm gonna avoid Anti-mage like the plague and stick to someone I know better like Skeleton King and Rikimaru.

I played in a matchmaking game last night as Venommancer pushing the middle lane. One of the enemy team members either crashed/legitimately disconnected and the game apparently allows a 5 minute window for you to reconnect.

If said person is unable to do so within those 5 minutes, they're booted from the game and then it's safe for anyone else to leave without the penalty of having an abandonment on their record. I thought that was pretty neat.

btw, WTF mode is fun as shit. Start a practice lobby, and in the options hit enable cheats

When the game starts, type "-wtf" in chat mode. Suddenly, all skills have neither mana costs nor cooldowns.

I found out about it just before you posted this. Facing enemy bots with this on is horrifying. Got eternally juggled by a kunka, eternally stunned by a tidehunter, ran around as earthshaker spamming fissures everywhere, and glad that Zeus wasn't spamming his ult. Oh, and Razor suddenly having a million electric rings coming out of him is terrifying.

There's unwritten rules that you're not allowed to use Tinker or Zeus in WTF mode, and for good reason.

Doesn't Tinker's ult already give him no cooldowns

Razor is pretty fucking strong since your ult can stack. Ult 30 times, blink on top of someone for basically an instant kill. It's physical damage so it goes through BKB as well.

Secretly though Venomancer is probably the strongest hero, since you can pretty much overwhelm their towers with magic-immune infinite wards and there's not a whole lot they can do about it.

Tinker's ult is still a three second channel.

The more important part is the fact that his missles auto-home on enemy heroes and they have 2500 range (that's roughly two entire screens).

Also, Furion might be banned in WTF mode too. Can't really remember.

Oh right, how could I forget? Clockwerk Goblin is definitely banned.

I got two kills and my friend ragequit before the creeps even spawned.

I don't know why I can get more into this than I can with League of Legends when they're almost the same thing.

Is Dota 2 more balanced even in it's beta phase than League of Legends is?

Haha. Noooooo. A lot of the balance in Dota comes from everything being pretty hilariously imbalanced.

Take for example, Tiny, who can literally two-shot half the heroes in the game if he ahs any sort of level advantage. Of course that doesn't matter much if Omniknight is anywhere around and makes them magic-immune for 12 seconds. Oh look, Juggernaut used both of his skills and just decimated half your team.

See?

Ah.

Either way I have no earthly clue why I'm playing this more than I did with LoL.

Because it's a lot more fun, even when you're losing, in Dota 2, than with LoL (or HoN, sort of)

And the characters or how they act/talk, etc, are more interesting imo. Reminds me of the kind of love I had for TF2 voices/characters.

The subtle differences between HoN and Dota heroes keeps fucking me over. In HoN Pharoah's (Clockwerk Goblin) ult will pass right over friendly creeps and heroes. Here it'll just whiff and do nothing (if you don't have an ult stick)

I probably wouldn't have any problems with this if I had started with this game but I'm so used to Pharoah it's really fucking up my game.
