There's also been talks lately that this will be a free-to-play title. That it'll just have an in game store, same as LoL or any other Valve game of late.

The only important thing about this is that I now know that Frood is back. So that's nice.

As long as it's got Phantom Lancer I'll probably switch over from HoN for good.

Valve is entering the MOBA scene way too late. I know people have only really heard of LoL and HoN, but there are many others...most of them kind of shitty.

By the time DotA 2 is released, there's going to like over 25. I think the thought process here is: "DotA 2? Okay...wait, Valve is the developer? Gotta make a shitty knock-off before Valve releases it's version!"

Except a lot of people recognize DOTA from the days of warcraft 3. However, I couldn't care less about this game.

All I can say about the trailer is meh. I'll probably end up sticking to HoN/LoL until they die out (if they die out, depending on how DOTA 2 turns out) anyway.

That joker from Reddit missed Dragon Knight fighting Viper at the end. He also called Earthshaker "BS" for no reason I can identify.

Watched a good amount of the stream from Gamescom. Not particularly familiar with this sort of game (played a tiny bit of LoL) but I thought it was pretty neat to watch, at least when it's played on what I assume is a really high level.

Yeah, when the tournament is invite-only for a million dollars, that's going to be the best gameplay you'll see.

The community has grown a lot during the time he's been working on it. DOTA 2 is a very long-term product for us, it's going to continue growing while new feature will be added."

"On top of that we're re-imagining the whole world." Newell clarifies that the approach will have more than a few things in common with TF2. As previewed in the DOTA2 trailer, Valve will release several videos similar to Team Fortress's "Meet the Team." "There are a lot of heroes in DOTA2 -- 105 so far, and we're gonna continue producing these videos. There's definitely something with this world," affirms Johnson.

When asked if he or the team had a favorite hero, Johnson replies, "It's funny, we talked about it, it's pretty hard, It's like asking someone to pick their favorite sports team. Everyone has different answers. In DOTA it's not about one hero. It's about all of them. We definitely have stories that we're going to tell in DOTA, there's even a comic that's gonna be released."

Full-court press from Valve, as usual.

Also: how has IceFrog been able to go this long with a major gaming company and still not have his or her name revealed? Imagine if all developers were that way. "Well, people may have some criticisms of this game, but I'll tell you: xXxPoOpIePaNtS1984xXx really has made a world you can immerse yourself in."

I am getting a "we're totally not gonna make this game hyper serious" vibe here.

Now it's going to take even longer for Meet The Pyro to come out. I do love Valve movies though because they have always been good. So these Meet the DOTA heroes will probably be really good.

Like Warcraft III wasn't hyper serious? I'm not sure I get what you're saying. Do you mean in the context of the narrative and characters or the development of the game itself? 'Cause it sounds like they're taking the latter of the two very seriously.

I know they are taking the game seriously, but it seems like they may attempt at some kind of tongue in cheek vibe like TF2.

Minus the hats.
